The Arts Council of Princeton offers a ten-week summer camp program
where campers create their own works of art and participate in special
workshops based on each weeks unique theme. A large variety of
visual art materials will be used. Each week campers will learn about
various artists and art history, enriching their total art experience.

| Folklore, Fables
and Fun
Enter into the world of imaginary people and beasts that make up fables,
folktales and mythological stories. Cyclops, Medusa, Sphinx and pixies
are a few creatures that will inspire various mixed media art projects.
June 28 - July 2
| Critters
in the Rainforest
Ever turn over a rock and expose a whole new world? All age groups
will use paint, wire, or papier-mâché while they journey
deep into the jungle to create animal and bug works of art.
July 6 -9
| Folk Art in America
Join us as we explore the history of American Folk Art with art projects
using techniques such as weaving, whittling and quilting inspired from
days gone by. (no camp July 5)
July 12-16
| Pop Goes the Easel!
All aboard as we travel back in time and explore the art movements and
eras of the art past including Modernism, Pop and much more. Campers
will enjoy creating a variety of mixed media art projects (painting,
drawing, sculpture and more) while learning about art history!
July 19-23
| Magic Carpet Ride
Join us as we fly on our magic carpet to examine the unique arts of
the Middle East. The land of camels, genie lamps, sand, mosaics and
mosques. Explore and unlock the mystery of Middle Eastern Art with paintings,
drawings and sculpture inspired by this exotic part of the world.
July 26-30
| Out of this World!
Voyage into the galaxy to study things from other unknown worlds, including
aliens, planets, foreign environments . . . and much more. What would
your life be like on another planet? Let your imagination inspire your
drawings, adorn your paintings, and guide your sculpture.
August 2-6
| African Safari
Grab your binoculars and journey to the African Sahara. Explore the
many countries and cultures of this vibrant and diverse continent. Mixed
media projects include, sculpture, painting, drawing and more. Lions,
tigers and zebras, oh my!
August 9-13
| Its Easy
Being Green
Come create extraordinary artwork using found objects and recycled materials,
all while having fun and learning about the positive effects of recycling
and reusing on our environment.

August 16-20
| Under the Sea
Journey into the sea to explore the underwater world of colorful reefs
and ocean life. Students will create mixed media art projects (painting,
papier-mâché, drawing and more) based on the fun and colorful
creatures of the sea.
August 23-27
| Wild Wild West
Cowboys, Native Americans, horses, and vast desert landscapes are some
images that have inspired and are portrayed in art work by artists specializing
in the genre of the American West. Some artists that may be explored
during this week of mixed media art making are Georgia OKeeffe,
Ansel Adams, and Frederic Remington.

You and Me Upon the Sea
This class will journey upon the seven seas with Noahs Ark, Old
Noahs Elephants, Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile, Tough Boris,
Lila Pirate and other water journey stories. Using our imaginations
well create characters, props, and seaworthy crafts and set sail
for loads of locations. On Friday well invite family members aboard
as we embark upon our creative journey!

Greetings From the Jersey Shore!
Using the book Greetings From Sandy Beach as a jumping-off point, we
will devise our own series of beach adventures. Students will recollect
their own beach memories, make up new ones, create characters; human,
fish, fowl, crustacean, and mammal, and present a performance piece
as a collection of postcards sent to family members for a Friday sharing!

Walking In a Winter Wonderland... in July?
Well the weather outside is frightful-ly hot, so lets make it snow
in July! Well explore some favorite winter stories; The Mitten,
The Snowman, The Snowy Day and The Hat. By making sets, props and costumes,
well transform PJS into a shivery, snowy place right after 4th of
July! By becoming animals and children in the snow, well take family
members on our winter wonderland journey on Friday!

The Emperors New Clothes: Revealed!
Remember the story of The Emperors New Clothes by Hans Christian
Andersen? We will explore this story as a series of monologues from
the perspective of various characters. How did The Imperial Prime Minister,
the Spinning Wheel, the Prince, or the Imperial Throne feel about the
deceit? Each student will create a character and a monologue and on
Friday we will reveal the Truth for all who wish to join the parade
(or is that charade?)!

Giants and Trolls: Curious and Droll
This week we will explore stories such as The Cat on the Dovrefell,
Seven in One Blow/The Brave Tailor, and Jack and the Beanstalk. The
joy of these stories (aside from the pure fun of enacting trolls and
giants!) is the triumph of the small over the large and the clever over
the dim-witted! Through improvisation, imagination, and pure creative
genius, we will devise our own rendition of a giant encounter and share
this with families on Friday!

Forest Fairy Tales
Did you ever notice that lots of fairy tales take place in the forest?
There's Hansel and Gretel, Baba Yaga, and Rapunzel to name only a few.
Children who sign up for this session will enact some woodsy tales. We'll
explore characters and create scenes based on this tree-laden locale.
Children will choose their favorite story, add simple sets, props, and
costumes, and bring our Forest Fairy Tale to life for family members on
Friday.

Filled
Rather Grimm Tales
Over the week, children will explore some Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales in
their original versions. (Not everyone lives happily ever after!) We will
explore the characters, both physically and vocally, play with settings
and plot, and devise our own rendition of the story with created sets,
props, and costumes. Students will share their Grimm Tale with family
members the last class. Be prepared for some foul fun!

Sing and Act with "Glee"
Have you ever wanted to be part of a real live Glee Club, just like the
new hit TV show? Have you ever wanted to be an actor and write your own
script? Now is your chance! Come join us as we embark on a week long excursion
where you will write your own scenes, act them out, sing, dance, create
scenery, and put them all together with movement into one fabulous

BEFORE REGISTERING FOR SUMMER PROGRAMS, PLEASE
READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
CONFIRMATIONS for summer camp and studios will be sent on or about June
15, 2010. Included will be emergency contact information, medical forms,
and parental releases that need to be completed and returned before students
can attend class.
All
children should arrive at Princeton
Junior School or the Paul Robeson Center approximately 10 minutes before
their class begins. Parents or caregivers are required to sign in all
campers. Morning session children must be picked up promptly at 12:00
pm, when full-day campers break for lunch. [A $15 late pickup
fee will be charged per occurrence if 15 or more minutes late]
Pickup requires
the authorized person to enter to sign out the child they are picking
up. You must park your vehicle in the parking lot at Princeton Junior
School and not near the main entrance on the circle, which is an emergency
vehicle only area. The drop off area in the front of the Arts Council
cannot be used for parking. [A $15 late pickup fee will be charged
per occurrence if 15 or more minutes late]
Snacks and beverages
are not included. If you would like your child to have a mid-morning or
mid-afternoon snack, please provide one. Full-day students will need to
bring lunch and beverage each day. Include an insulated lunch bag, if
necessary; we do not have on-site refrigeration.
Refund/Cancellation
Policy
Camp tuition, less a $25 registration fee, will be fully refunded up to
one month (30 days) prior to the beginning of the weekly session. Please
speak to our Camp Director if you need to cancel. No refunds are granted
after that time for any summer program. Tuition is non-transferable.
Scholarships:
Many children cannot afford to participate in Summer Camp programs. The
Arts Council tries to offer scholarships to these deserving children!
If you would like to contribute to our scholarship fund, please include
the amount on the Registration Form. If you are in need of financial assistance,
please contact our Camp Director for scholarship details and availability
at 609-924-8777.
