Title: Green Critter
Description: Abstract (paper, fabric, acrylic) Green & Orange
Medium: Mixed Media
I discover uniqueness in cast-off paper and other articles in my mixed media expressions.
“I focus on bringing together unrelated materials from their previous existences into new and dynamic relationships." Color expresses itself differently on paper, fabric, metals plastic, wood, masonry etc. I'm challenged to push the limits in combining these. The "used" materials that I employ, overlooked in a disposable society, seem to cry out to me to express their universality. They are earthy and truthful. They contain history. I like to think of my art as statement of the reality of imagination. That is, we are not limited by common ways of thinking. The irreverent search for a new way can open our eyes.
Nancy studied with Roy Lichtenstein at Douglass College in 1962 resulting in a POP influence. She admires and has been inspired by Kurt Schwitters, Hans Hoffman, Paul Klee, Joan Miro, Willem de Kooning and Henri Matisse. She has also studied at the Newark School of Fine Industrial Arts and at Montclair University. She has taught at the Michener Museum, New Hope, PA & University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
