Gregory Perkel received his MFA in painting from the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute Fine Art and Graphic Department in 1965. Upon graduation he worked in book and magazine illustration, movie and theater posters, animation and stage design until 1977. He was best known in the Soviet Union for his series of lithographs based on the short stories of Sholom Aleichem and on the epic novel of Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace, highly acclaimed by critics and acquired by the renowned State Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow. Between 1965 and 1977 Gregory Perkel participated in all major art shows in the Soviet Union. In 1977, he immigrated to the United States with his family. Since that time he has participated in many shows in the US and Europe. He is currently represented by OK Harris Gallery in SOHO, owned by the legendary art dealer, Ivan Karp. His last show in July, 2007 was in the Hunterdon Museum of Art. This show received high critical acclaim in the press. Previous shows were reviewed by The New York Times and other publications. His work can be found in numerous museums and private collections in the United States, Canada and Europe. Mr. Perkel currently lives in South Brunswick, and teaches painting for the Art Council of Princeton.
