Artist: Nancy
Shill Title: Neshaminy Cliffs
Description: Found materials and paint – abstract
reminiscent of cliffs along the
Neshaminy Creek in PA Medium:
Mixed media Size: 27” x 27”
Nancy Shill discovers uniqueness in cast-off paper and other
articles in her mixed media expressions. “It is my intention
to bring the interactions between unrelated materials from their previous
existences into new and dynamic relationships.” Color takes differently
to papers, fabrics, metals, plastics, woods and masonries. I’m
challenged to push the limits in combining these. The “used” materials
that she employs, overlooked in a disposable society, make a cry for
universal worth. They are earthy and truthful. They contain history.
Nancy studied with Roy Lichtenstein at Douglass College in 1962. She
admires and has been inspired by Lichtenstein, Klee, Miro, Picasso,
Hoffman, DeKooning, Kandinsky, Schwitters and Matisse. She has also
studied at the Newark School of Fine Industrial Arts and at Montclair
University. She has taught at the Michener Museum, New Hope, PA, in
the University of the Arts and at various other venues. She is currently
teaching privately in her home studio in Bucks County, PA.
