In Honor Of

November 2009

About the Project:
In Honor Of is a community based visual arts project that explores the broader meanings revealed from local residents stories and memories. The project is based on interviews, conducted by teenagers of older residents in the city, which
will result in a site-specific outdoor sculpture for the exterior landscaped portions Arts Council of Princeton building and an interior interactive wall drawing that uses text from community interviews to honor their memories of the city. In Honor Of is based on the idea that universals come from specifics, and that a collection of publicly displayed memories helps people shape an image of themselves, and collectively an image of their community and city. The goal is to use art to document and give voice to the memories of a topography and population
that is always transforming.

Project Description:
The interior component is a wall drawing of a map of the area of the Arts Council, on which the public and visitors the building can attach “flags” with their memories to a specific geographic point.   >>The outdoor component is 10 standing “flags” made of painted wood that are to be installed in the landscaping outside the building, which have text from the research portion of the project.

Outdoor component is coming in Spring 2010; indoor component is now on view.
