Biography:

Mr. Spirin graduated from Surikov School of Fine Art at the Academy of Arts in Moscow and Moscow Stroganov Institute of Art, and over the years he has developed his own unique style combining traditional Russian contemporary art technique with the great traditions of the Renaissance. Mr. Spirin has created more than forty children's illustrated books. Five of his books have been awarded the Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators in New York City, four of his books have received the prestigious "The Best Illustrated Book of the Year" award from The New York Times, and his current book, A Apple Pie, was reviewed in The New York Times Book Review of November 13, 2006, "He draws like a whiz, understands Kate Greenaway and children…he always gives his audience a great deal to look at on each page." The original paintings from his storybooks are in the permanent collections of Princeton University, Library of Congress, Madonna, and many private and corporate collectors around the world.
