Arts Council of Princeton Announces Dining by Design Annual Fundraiser

The Arts Council of Princeton's fall fundraiser Dining by Design 2007 will take place on Saturday, October 27th, 2007. The annual gala event will feature a Cocktail Reception, with an award presentation to Michael Graves and a Dream Dinners silent auction from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm. At 8:00 pm artistic themed Dinner Parties will take place at select Princeton area private homes.

Dining by Design, now in its sixth year, is the Arts Council of Princeton's signature annual fall fundraising event. Approximately 450 guests will convene at the Atrium, 23 Orchard Road, Skillman for a themed cocktail reception and then travel on to a one of 30 intimate dinner parties at select homes in the Princeton area where in addition to a gourmet meal, guests will enjoy an artistic presentation or performance.

This year, the event theme is Art of the Dream, after Henri Rousseau's painting The Dream. The painting will be brought to life with a fantastical setting and an interactive dance performed by students of the Princeton Ballet School. Artwork provided by students from our youth programs will add to the decor.

A special Dream Dinners Silent Auction will be a highlight of the event. The auction will feature master and private chefs who have been selected to cook in the homes of auction winners while table décor will be provided by design professionals. Wine pairings donated by Art Council trustees and friends round out these magical evenings for the winning bidders and their guests.

The Art of the Dream theme pays tribute to architect Michael Graves, for helping the Arts Council realize the dream of a new home for the arts in downtown Princeton. Appropriately, The Arts Council's Board of Trustees will be presenting the 2007 Arts Vision Award (AVA) to Michael Graves at the cocktail reception. The AVA Award recognizes Graves' significant contributions to the Princeton community through his leadership in the arts, exemplified by his design of the Arts Council's new Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, scheduled to open to the public this coming January.

Funds raised by Dining by Design support the many educational programs for youth the Arts Council offers the Princeton community. Corporate and individual support generated through Dining by Design allows the Arts Council to continue to improve and expand its programs, including free art instruction for at risk youth. Examples of the Arts Council's free arts education programs include: "Arts Exchange", a weekly after-school class for homeless youth provided in partnership with HomeFront in Trenton; and "Creative Fridays", an afternoon arts program for children in grades K-5 at Princeton Young Achievers' Community Learning Centers as part of their after school program. The Arts Council also works in partnership with Princeton Nursery School and local Princeton Schools to provide much needed quality art experiences for growing minds.

Art instruction not only expands young minds, boosts confidence and keeps children busy and off the streets, it has been proven to promote a higher level of success in academic subjects as well. Unfortunately, while accessible arts education does so much for a community, art centers around the nation are chronically under-funded. Attending fundraising events such as Dining by Design is one of the many ways members of the greater Princeton community can show their support.

THE ARTS COUNCIL OF PRINCETON, now celebrating its 40th Anniversary, is a nonprofit organization with a mission of Building Community through the Arts. The Arts Council's new Michael Graves' designed Paul Robeson Center for the Arts will feature a new gallery, theater and expanded studio facilities, the state-of-the-art Robeson Center will serve as a cultural destination for the greater Princeton community.

ARTS VISION AWARD ANNOUNCED
October 16, 2007

Arts Council of Princeton
to present Arts Vision Award to
Architect Michael Graves at the
Dining by Design Gala Fundraiser on October 27

The Board of Trustees of the Arts Council of Princeton is pleased to announce the presentation of the Arts Vision Award (AVA) to Princeton architect Michael Graves at the Dining by Design Gala Fundraiser on October 27, 2007.

The Arts Council's 2nd annual AVA recognizes Graves for his significant contributions to the Princeton community, exemplified by his design of the Arts Council's new Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, scheduled to open to the public January 2008.

The award ceremony will take place at the Art of the Dream themed Cocktail reception at the Atrium, 23 Orchard Road, Skillman. The theme pays tribute to Michael Graves for helping the Arts Council realize the dream of a new home for the arts in downtown Princeton.

World renowned architect, Michael Graves, FAIA, is the founder of two Princeton- and New York-based design firms - one a planning, architecture and interior design practice and the other a product design and graphic design practice. They have designed over 2,000 consumer products and over 350 buildings throughout the world, including many for cultural and educational institutions such as the Arts Council of Princeton and The Newark Museum. Graves and his projects have won over 185 awards for design excellence. He was the recipient of the 2001 Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects, the 1999 National Medal of Arts, and the New Jersey Governor's Walt Whitman Award for Creative Achievement. He is also the Robert Schirmer Professor of Architecture, Emeritus, at Princeton University, where he taught in the School of Architecture for nearly 40 years.

A special Dream Dinners Silent Auction will be another highlight of the event. The auction will feature master and private chefs who have been selected to cook in the homes of auction winners while table décor will be provided by design professionals. Wine pairings donated by Art Council trustees and friends round out these magical evenings for the winning bidders and their guests. An interactive dance performed by students of the American Repertory Ballet's Princeton Ballet School, will bring the Art of the Dream theme, inspired by Henri Rousseau's painting The Dream, to life.
